“The Time of Your Life”: GCRC Prom 2014

On Saturday night, GCRC hosted its 2nd annual prom at the Calhoun Convention Center. This year’s theme was “The Time of Your Life” and it was such a treat to see everyone dressed up in their gowns and suits, dancing and laughing, and having a blast together.

Each year, we crown a prom king and queen, and we also recognize each individual for his or her contribution to the agency with awards honoring character excellence. We handed out certificates for traits like “Gentle”, “Courageous”, “Funny”, and “Compassionate” and a number of others. We want our individuals to know how much we cherish them and, most importantly, that they each have something important to contribute to our organization and the world.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and buttered rolls with lots of dessert options! Red velvet cake was a big hit.

We want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate our prom this year, and we hope you’ll come back again in 2015!

P.S. More photos to come!

Happy Friday!

Today, it is our privilege to introduce you to our fearless leader, Mary West Barclay, and hear a few words from her on what The George Chambers Resource Center is all about…and why our work is so vital for our communities:

Welcome! At GCRC, we are proud of our shared philosophy in individualization of our services. We want to know who you are, where you’ve been, and where you want to go, and provide any service that will ensure your success. We believe that our reason for being is not complete until we advocate, educate, and provide integrated opportunities, not only for individuals in services, but for members of our community, as well. Our agency is a reflection of this belief and we are proud of the steps we have taken to provide an organization that is welcoming and provides a multitude of services that can be coordinated to meet each individual request.

Now that our new website has launched, and the blog is up and running, we’ve seen an incredible response from the community. We’ve begun receiving emails regarding our ability to provide services to additional individuals and we want to thank you all for taking the time to visit and learn more about us. Please know that a site visit from any individuals interested in our services, or families inquiring about future services, for their sons/daughters, are always possible. No appointment is necessary. Drop by anytime! We would love to meet you.

An Introduction

Change QuoteHello and welcome to our brand new GCRC website and blog! We’re excited to share this space with you after so many months of planning and development. As it goes with most projects, there is always a little bit of chaos that precedes big changes. And while a new website and blog might not seem like a big change to some, it is to us because this is a place where you’re invited to an intimate look at what we do here at GCRC.

This is a place where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of our individuals and with deeper understanding comes a stirring for action. Our hope for these individuals, and for ALL people, is for them to find a place within a community where they will not be driven away by fear, ignorance, or condemnation, but will, instead, be embraced as the unique and talented people they are. This new site is a step in that direction. Let us know what you think of the new site by Liking our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter and Instagram @GCRCOfficial! And thank you, THANK YOU, for following along on our journey.
